ORIGIN AND HISTORY
The name Tristan is an old Celtic name, sometimes pronounced Tristan and sometimes Tristram. The name stems from the Byrthonic names 'Drust' or 'Drustanus'. The name Tristan was that of a famous knight of Arthurian Legend (at the Round Table) and the Legend of Tristan and Isolde is one that has been made into many fairy tales, opera, poems and songs. The name is thought to have been influenced by the French word 'triste' which means 'sad'.[1]
