The name Terry originates as a shortened or pet version of the Latin “Terence,” “Terrell,” “Theresa” or “Theodore.” However, Terry is now also a given first name in its own right. The name Terry is of Old German origin meaning “power of the tribe” or “ruler of the people” and became utilized with the help of the Norman French “Thierri,” which influenced the French “Theirry.”
