The name Raymond originates from the German “Raginmund” meaning “wise protection,” which is a combination of “ragin” meaning “advice,” “judgment” or “counsel” and “mund” meaning “hand” or “protection.” From the Greek, the name was transferred to the Old Norman French “Raimund.” The Gaelic form of Raymond is “Reamonn.” The Anglo-Normans introduced the name to Ireland.

Raymond is the name of seven Counts (Raymond I - VII) of Toulouse from the 9th through 13th centuries.
