ORIGIN AND HISTORY

The name Patrick originates from the Latin “patricius” meaning “a patrician.” Gaelic forms of Patrick are “Padraic,” “Padraig” and “Padruig.”

The name was adopted and popularized by Saint Patrick – originally named Sucat - during the 4th and 5th centuries. He was a missionary to and patron saint of Ireland, who eventually Christianized the entire country.
