ORIGIN AND HISTORY

Octavio is of Latin origin, and it means "eighth." The original form of the name is Octavius.^[1] It comes from the Greek root ὀκτά-, which gives us other words such as "octagon," "octave" and "octane."^[1]

In large families, especially during the Victorian era, Octavio, or its variant forms, was often given to the eighth child born to the family.^[1]

Octavio first appeared on the top 1000 list in the United States in 1967. While usage has been steady, it has never yet risen into the top 500. The highest recorded ranking was in 2003, when Octavio was the 532nd most popular boy's name in the United States. In 2007, it ranked at 854.
