[edit] ORIGIN AND HISTORY

Nancy is a variant of the name Ann. It developed in the 18th century and was originally just a nickname. Ann is a form of Hannah, which is a Hebrew name meaning "grace."[1]

[edit] POPULARITY

Nancy was a top 100 name in the United States in the late 19th century, and it did not fall under the top 200 until 1998. It was most popular between 1934 and 1955, when it held steady in the top 10 most popular girls' names, reaching as high as 6th in 1950. A gradual decline then began, and in 2007, Nancy ranked as the 363rd most popular girl's name.[2]
