The name Morgan derives from the Old Welsh “Morcant” which is a combination of either “mor” meaning “sea” or “mawr” meaning “great” and either “cant” meaning “circle” or “completion” or from “can” meaning “white” or “bright.” Morgan is also an anglicized form of the Irish “Murchadh” meaning “sea warrior.”

In Arthurian legend, Morgan le Fay (Morgan the fairy) – the stepsister of King Arthur and mother of Modred and Gawain – is a sorceress.
