The name Megan originates as a borrowing from the Welsh as a pet form of “Marged” or “Margaret,” which stems from the Greek “margaron” meaning “pearl.” Henceforth, Megan has become associated with “little pearl.”

Saint Margaret was the patron saint of expectant mothers. She was martyred in the 4th century.
