Louis is of French and Germanic origin. There were 18 French Kings named Louis, beginning with the Carolingian Empire with King Louis I, the Debonaire from 814-840. The last King Louie was King Louis-Phillipe in Orleans from 1830-1848.

FACTS

In 1955, Chuck Berry wrote the song "Louie, Louie." In 1963, the Kingsmen made a recording of the song. As absurd as it may seem by today's standards, their recording was actually banned from radio play by the governor of Indiana, Matthew E. Welsh, who thought the lyrics were obscene! This prompted an investigation by the FBI. However, the song became even more popular by their drawing such attention to it. The Kingmen's single hit number 1 on the Cashbox chart and #2 on the Billboard Hot 100! The song endured and is now considered a rock & roll classic.

Originally created in French, and later translated to English, the computer game FADE uses the name Louie. In the game, Louie has suffered from amnesia since childhood. Louie explores different locations and eventually discovers why he has blackouts. In 2005, FADE was a finalist in Pocket PC Magazine's Best Software Awards.
