There are several theories as to the origin of the name of Julius:
- One thought is that it is derived from Latin, meaning downy, tender, or soft hair. [1]
- Another thought is that it is derived from Greek meaning "Jove's descendant." Jove was the chief of the Greco-Roman gods.[1]
Its popularity as a first name came about through a family line of Roman emperors, the most notable being Julius Caesar.
