ORIGIN & HISTORY
The name Jayden is of modern American and English origin. Thought to have been created as a combination name of Jay and Hayden, there is some speculation the name may be of Hebrew origin, named after a minor worker who (mentioned only once in a single Scripture) helped rebuild the temple in Jerusalem under the prophet Nehemiah's direction. However, most researched sites indicate the name is a modern creation for either a boy or girl's name and not etymologically related to the Hebrew name, Jadon.
POPULARITY
Interestingly, the name Jayden ranked 54th in the United States as a boy's name in 2006. As a girl's name, it ranked 224th. In other English speaking countries, the trend of the name is rapidly equalizing as a male and female name. Especially in Canada and Australia. In England in 2006, it ranked 68th for a boy's name and in the 75th position for a girl's name.
