ORIGIN & HISTORY
Originated from the Hebrew name "Khannah,"[1] meaning "graciousness," "favor," "grace" It comes from the stem of Hanan, meaning "he was gracious."
The name Hannah is believed to be Biblical and Hebrew in its original form, although the original Hebrew spelling is "Khannah," and means "gracious" or "grace of God." The name first appeared in Biblical form as Hannah, the mother of Samuel. She was unable to have children and prayed diligently for a child. She was thought to be intoxicated in public when found praying silently with only her lips moving. She was confronted by the priest, Eli, and she informed him she was praying for a child. When her son, Samuel, was born, she took him to Eli at the young age of four to dedicate him to the Lord's service. The meaning of her name certainly applies in this story, as she graciously returned her son to the Lord, acknowledging that her God was the one who gave her the child.
