ORIGIN AND HISTORY
Grover appears to come from the English use of what was once a surname that came to mean someone or a family living near a grove of trees or lives in the grove. (Technically, one who groves.) This is possibly from the Old English graf. (“Old English, also called Anglo-Saxon, is the language spoken by the English inhabitants of Britain from about 500 to 1100 A.D.”)[1] [1]
Grover is also one of the surnames that made its way into the first and middle name status. As families married and women took their husbands’ names, their lineage surnames were threatened. Many people then gave their family names to their children to keep these family surnames alive.
