Gilberto is the Spanish form of the name Gilbert, from the Old French name Guillebert, which is from the Old High German Williberht “a bright will.” [1] Alternatively, it may be derived from the Old French Gilebert, from Gisilbert “a bright pledge” “a bright promise,” which is made from the Old High German elements gisel (gisil) “pledge” and beorht (beraht) “bright.”
