Two Halcones (falcons) met yesterday in the Mexican LNBP playoff finals, but only one of them is getting used to collecting titles. Halcones Xalapa downed Halcones Rojos Veracruz 89-79 in game five of the best-of-seven series and claimed their third consecutive championship and the fourth in the history of the club, founded in 2003. The champion was already winning at halftime by 46-40. Uruguayan Leandro García Morales led Xalapa with 26 points and seven rebounds, followed by Gerald Brown with 16 points and Víctor Mariscal with less one and six boards. For Veracruz, the topscorer was Ricky Sánchez, who netted 20 points and dished six assists, while Lawrence Hill added 17 points and eight rebounds and Dan Langhi had a double-double (13 points and the same amount of rebounds). This was the first time since 2006 that Soles Mexicali does not make the playoff finals. Even some Oakland voters who supported his mayoral run in 1998 - which resurrected Brown's political career - believed his ascendance signaled a return to the good ol' days. But they were soon disappointed. Just like Elvis, Brown's "Moonbeam" persona has left the building. He's been replaced by Edmund Gerald Brown Jr., the son of former Gov. Pat Brown. At 71 years old, Brown...
