ORIGIN AND HISTORY

A name used in both English and French, Eve originates from the Hebrew name Chava and the Hebrew word Chai, meaning "life". In the book of Genesis in the Bible, Eve was the first woman, the wife of Adam, and the mother to all humanity. According to the Scriptures, Eve is tempted by the serpent and disobeys God by eating the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge. When she convinces her husband Adam to do the same, the two are banished from the Garden of Eden. ^[1]

POPULARITY

In the 1970’s, the name Eve ranked in the top 1000 names for girls. Its popularity declined in the mid-1980’s until the late 1990’s, during which time it did not even make the top 1000 list. Over the past ten years, however, Eve has been increasing in its appeal once again. ^[1]
