The name Dylan is believed to be derived from the Celtic “dy” meaning “great” and “llanw” meaning “sea” or “rising tide.”

In Welsh mythology, Dylan - son of Gwyddion and Arianrhod – was a God of the sea, who was accidentally killed by his uncle, Govannon, a Smith God.
