In the romance languages, the word "angel" is derived from the Latin, which comes from the Greek: άγγελος, angelos, meaning "messenger." The primary term for "angel" in Hebrew & Arabic is malakh (מַלְאָךְ), malaika, or malak (ملاك) which comes from the Semitic root l-'-k (ל-א-ך^[1]), meaning "to send."
