Amelia is a Latin girl name. The meaning of the name is "flatterer, work of the Lord, beloved"[1] and also "industrious." In Arabic, the similar sounding name Amina means "trustworthy."[1] Amelia means "industrious" in Latin, English, and German.[1]
Saint Amelia, who lived from approximately 741 to 772, is the patron saint of farmers, fishermen and those who suffer from pain in the arm or shoulder. Amelia resided as a nun at the women’s Benedictine abbey of Münster-Bilzen, Belgium. In the Belgian town of Temsche, Amelia founded a church that was dedicated to the Virgin Mary.[1]

- Amelia Earhart was a famous aviator who disappeared on a 1937 flight between New Guinea and Howland Island. She was nicknamed "Lady Lindy" because she resembled Charles Lindbergh with her slim build and facial features. Earhart became friends with Eleanor Roosevelt, who wished to learn to fly. In 1937, the year she disappeared, Earhart met Orville Wright at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia.[1]
