ORIGIN AND HISTORY
Latin influence. A feminine proper name literally meaning "worthy to be loved" and the feminine of Latin amandus, German of amare "to love". [1] More contemporarily believed to have been created by a playwright named Colley Cibber in the 17th Century. His translation of the Latin was "lovable.” [1]
